Darn fireworks!

December 29, 2006

Just like in lots of other countries, it's a tradition to use firework on the 31st of December to welcome the new year. I hate that tradition!

Because it seems like lots of kids can't read the clock and have started lighting up their fireworks already, it sounds like we're living in a war zone. You can hear firecrackers banging and skyrockets whistling all the time. I hate those things and bark every time I hear one. Especially when I hear one of those big ones. All that barking has made me tired, so I think I'll hit the sack. Again.

Good thing you have that great new bed to crash out on! I also hate the fireworks, so I feel your pain :)

Django; You are not alone. We don't dofireworks here for New Year's, but during the 4th of July Bandit and Paisley were not to happy with them.

As I type this, it's less than 45 minutes to the start of the New Year here in the UK and my dog is unaware of the racket that will ensue. She absolutely hates fireworks, gunshots and even gets spooked by some car doors slamming. Despite what you might think, she's not nervous - it all stems from her seeing a firework close-up when she was 2 years old. We've tried all sorts of things to calm her down when there are fireworks but to no avail. Pheromone dispensers failed to work, as did the tranquiliser tablets that we gave her earlier this evening. It would appear that the vet got the dose wrong so now I've got a woosy dog rather than one that's completely out of it.
