Hi everyone, I have a question that I need your advice on and I can't even believe I have to ask this but ... My girl Hailie, usually gets excited when she sees my cat. She usually just gets excited and wimpers and whines, but the other night Hailie saw my cat sitting on the window sill behind my bed and she went to the head of my bed to go after her. My cat got scared and moved from the window but in the process of running away Hailie actually got a hold of her and she started to what seemed like thrash her back and forth! It all happend so fast and I could not believe what was going on and I lunged onto the bed and grabbed her and she was still "excited" or what I thought was excitement and my cat ran away. My cat seemed to be ok but Hailie did pull some of her fur out. I eventually removed Hailie and put her in her crate so I could check on my cat which she was so scared it took me almost an hour to get her out from under my bed.
I have no idea where that came from and it is so upsetting to me that I cried. Hailie is this gentle thing that usually cuddles with me and my cat. Hailie has NEVER done that to my cat before, but now I feel like I can't trust her around my cat or anything. I have no idea what to do about it!
Does anyone have any advice? I would really appreciate it

Although pugs are generally laid back and not inclined to go about attacking other animals, they are dogs after all.
All dogs have an inbuilt 'chase and attack' mode, how hidden or bred out it is varies, but at the end of the day pugs are dogs and it just takes the right trigger to 'click' the response in the brain. Obviously you'd be more inclined to see this behaviour in say a terrier (patterdales/jacks etc) than a pug, but its still in there deep down.
Obviously this is all out of character for Hailie as it is for most pugs. She probably got herself so worked up she 'forgot' herself and just went for it.
Keep them seperate for a few days and then go back with supervised time in the same room. You may find it'll never happen again. If she seems to be getting herself worked up again then calmly remove her from the room where the cat is.
Does she enjoy chasing a ball etc? It might be worth incorporating this into her walks just to vent any energy she might have pent up.
I dont know what else to suggest, I hope it all pans out for you. It must've been a shock to see her in that way!
