The vet I use has had a few complaints against them for wrong diagnose & neglect, in a couple of case's the pets have died. All they ever want to do is blood & urine tests or x-rays. Any way they said Amy had kidney failure & put her on 10mg of Fortekor tablets yet when I have googled this drug it said for heart complaint in Dog's not kidney??? But could be used for cats with kidney failure has any one heard of this drug or it's use's |

Yes definately get a different practises opinion. Also if the claims about negligence prove to be true I'd be changing vets asap, JMO.
I hope Amys not too bad, and is comfortable. How is she overall these days? Give her a squeeze from me and the gang xxx |

Liz,
The vet you're going to see on Friday used to work at the practice that you're registered at in Wallsend. He's also worked at another well known practise in the North East before starting out on his own. He's brilliant and has been great with the pugs and all four cats.I've also taken 4 foster cats to see him plus my sisters 3 cats go there and my friend also takes her cat and Peters brothers family have moved practices a few times to be with him when hes changed over.I know you're very worried about Amy but I couldn't recommend this vet to you more.Let me know how you get on.x |

Dogs:
this is what i found on the net
Special Precautions, Warnings and Undesirable Effects
Do not use in animals known to be hypersensitive to the active substance.
Transient signs of tiredness or dizziness may appear in rare cases.
As is routine in cases of chronic renal insufficiency, it is recommended to monitor plasma urea and creatinine concentrations. No evidence of renal toxicity to Fortekor has been observed in dogs during clinical trials.
Do not use in any dog that has evidence of cardiac output failure due to aortic stenosis.
In clinical trials in dogs with heart failure, Fortekor was well tolerated with an incidence of adverse effects statisically lower than observed in placebo treated dogs. |

Hi Libby
I've never heard of Fortekor before but I'm guessing that maybe its used to treat excess fluid that builds up during renal failure and heart failure? Good look at your new vets, trust your instincts and don't be shy at asking lots of questions. Keep us posted!

When we got too vet he was reading Amy's note's, Then asked us to explain why we wanted second opinion. I took a sample of her wee so he checked that there & then, Then I showed him her drugs, he just laughed at the Fortekor said they would never help a dog with kidney failure. He give her a full examination, was very pleased on how white her teeth are. Said her heart sounds fine, & nothing wrong with her wee?? Well if she had kidney failure & was diagnosed few month back he would expect a very under weight & poorly dog, Kidneys can not be repaired. In his opinion there is nothing wrong with her kidneys, He said more than likely her thyriod problem might have been the cause of her earlier illness as last vet did increase her soloxine at the same time as they said her kidneys were damaged. her pacing the floor & looking stressed could be either Indegestion or pain some where else. So for 3/4 weeks I have to give her half a Zantac twice aday, if it still happens then we need to look further but he thinks Zantac will work as alot of older dogs get indegestion.
So all in all we have quite a healthy if bit tubby 11 year old girl, he even had a quick look at Harry, said for what he had been thro he is looking good. :-) The other good news was the price, 45 min consultaion + 30 day supply of soloxine £45. Plus Neil was a lovely guy & you did not feel like he was in a hurry. |
